Nephrology / Hypertension

Evaluation

The faculty in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center believes that regular feedback is an important part of the training process.

All fellows meet monthly for lunch with the director, at which time they discuss the training program and the current state of academic pediatrics and pediatric nephrology.

In addition, fellows receive these kinds of evaluations:

  • a formal, written evaluation on a monthly basis during the first year, and the fellow discusses the evaluation with a faculty member;
  • the same formal, written evaluation every four months after the first year;
  • an annually updated narrative training summary including data on procedures and consultation.

In addition, all fellows annually take the American Board of Pediatrics in-training exam in pediatric nephrology.

The Division also believes that the training program itself needs regular evaluation through these methods:

  • Fellows are asked to anonymously evaluate the faculty and the training program semi-annually.
  • A local oversight committee is charged with reviewing the program annually. Additionally, about once every 5 years, the program undergoes external evaluation.
  • These evaluations include confidential input from current and former trainees.
