Salary and Benefits

Salary Range for Fellows

At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the Orthopaedic Surgery clinical fellow salary scale for 2003-2004 is as follows:

  • PL-IV $45,500
  • PL-V $46,500
  • PL-VI $47,500
  • PL-VII $48,500
  • PL-VIII $49,500

Health Insurance Benefits

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides health insurance to all fellows and family members (spouse and children); rates change yearly.

Expense Allotments Fiscal Year 2009

At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, each Orthopaedic Surgery fellow is allotted a total of $6,150 per year:

  • Moving Expenses $1,500 (can only be used for moving expenses)
  • Minor Equipment $200
  • Office Supply $200
  • Travel Expenses $4,000
  • Miscellaneous Expenses $250

Parking

On-site parking is available at a fee of $10 per pay period, which will be deducted from the fellow's paycheck.

Life Insurance

Group Term Life Insurance in the amount of $50,000 will be provided without cost, effective the first day of active employment. This insurance is convertible to a continuing policy when the fellow leaves the institution. A written statement of this policy, its underwriter and other details will be provided to each fellow upon employment.

Travel Accident Insurance

Travel Accident Insurance covering life or dismemberment in the amount of $100,000. This applies to all travel while on hospital business, but not for travel to and from work or as a pedestrian in Cincinnati.

Disability Insurance

Long Term Disability incurrence covering disability incurred as a result of either sickness or accident will be provided effective the first day of active employment. Cincinnati Children's pays for the entire cost of this coverage. This plan is 60% of base salary, up to a maximum benefit of $2000.00 per month, beginning after 90 days of disability.

Medical Leave of Absence

Medical Leave of Absence with pay is granted for short-term illness or injury, including pregnancy for a period of up to three months. Personal (non-medical) leaves of absence without pay are available for a period of up to one year with the approval of the fellowship training director.

Personal Liability Insurance

Personal liability insurance will be provided by Cincinnati Children's, which will cover all activities, associated with the fellowship program. A certificate of such coverage will be provided to each fellow.

Professional Liability Insurance

The professional liability insurance provided by Cincinnati Children's does not cover any activities which are not associated with the fellowship program, or other activities as directed by Cincinnati Children's.

Work is permitted during off-duty hours as a physician or otherwise as long as it does not interfere with proper performance of duty as an orthopaedic fellow.
