Disciplinary Procedures
It is the policy of Cincinnati Children's to settle disputes and grievances regarding medical or clinical issues quickly. If a fellow cannot promptly settle a grievance regarding a medical or clinical dispute after discussion with his / her division director, the grievance shall be submitted in writing to the fellowship training director.
If the grievance is not settled within five days to the satisfaction of the fellow, the fellow and the fellowship training director shall submit the grievance to the chief of staff of Cincinnati Children's.
If, after five days, satisfactory resolution of grievance cannot be made, the chairman of the Department of Pediatrics shall submit the grievance. Within five days the chairman will review the grievance and discuss it with the fellow, and division director and the fellowship training director.
The chairman of the Department of Pediatrics will provide impartial arbitration of the grievance and his decision shall be binding of both parties. Complaints regarding sexual harassment and exploitation will be handled in accordance with Cincinnati Children's policies.
During each stage of this procedure, a designated representative may accompany and participate in discussion if so desired by the fellow whose grievance is being settled.
Disciplinary action, whether taken in response to grievance or otherwise, will be submitted in writing to the fellow in advance of the disciplinary action. If a grievance is deemed by Cincinnati Children's to concern other than a medical or clinical dispute, the grievance will be handled in accordance with normal Cincinnati Children's grievance policies and procedures.
Complaints regarding sexual harassment and exploitation will be handled in accordance with Cincinnati Children's policies.
