The Cystic Fibrosis Center

The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is to be the leader in improving cystic fibrosis outcomes through clinical care, research and education, to deliver clinical care that is evidence-based and family-centered and to train new clinicians and researchers who will continue this commitment to excellence. Almost 200 patients with cystic fibrosis are followed at Cincinnati Children's, and an additional 100 patients are followed at the University of Cincinnati.

Jim Acton, MD, is the Center Director and Patricia Joseph, MD, is the Adult Program Director. Six of the physicians within the division provide most of the cystic fibrosis care. Nursing support is provided by eight nurse specialists, including one nurse practitioner. The primary cystic fibrosis team also consists of a nutritionist, four respiratory therapists, a social worker and a research nurse, while other clinical support is routinely provided by a designated clinical pharmacist, clinical psychologist and physical therapist.
