Pulmonary Medicine

Overview

The mission of the Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Training Program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is to train the next generation of academic pediatric pulmonologists. Graduates of this program will advance the field through excellence in patient care, teaching and research. This program is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. At the end of this three year training program, graduates will be Board-Eligible in Pediatric Pulmonology.

Objective

The fellowship prepares physicians for academic, research and private practice careers in the field of Pulmonary Medicine. This broad-based training program leads to clinical competency, preparation for the special certification of the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Pulmonology and successful accomplishment of meaningful research in the specialized field. The clinical portion of the training is concentrated during the first year, (~9 months), enabling fellows to concentrate on scholarly activities during their second and third years of training (9 months/year).

Clinical Training

The fellowship offers clinical training opportunities in both inpatient and outpatient settings and focuses extensively on the management of pediatric patients with a variety of disorders.

Research is accomplished in a rich variety of pulmonary subjects, with up to 20 months in the laboratories of attending physicians / principal investigators.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree from an accredited institution, and must be Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics

Stipends / Pay

Salaries are paid commensurate with policies established for graduate medical education participants by the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children's.

How to Apply

We accept two trainees each year. Applications must be submitted by July 1 of the year preceding the beginning of training (e.g., July 1, 2001 for a June 2002 start).
