Overview

The ACGME-accredited Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) Fellowship Program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is currently available as both one- and two-year programs, depending on previous training and qualifications needed to sit for PRM certification.

The fellowship program will offer a broad exposure to pediatric inpatient and outpatient clinical settings and also provide excellent research training through didactics and clinical mentorship.

Our 12-bed CARF-accredited pediatric inpatient rehabilitation unit is located in a free-standing 440-bed tertiary pediatric hospital. Referral sources for inpatient services include all pediatric subspecialties, with frequent consults from:

The average daily census on the inpatient unit is eight patients. Consultation from all pediatric subspecialties is available at all times as necessary.

Outpatient / Multidisciplinary Experiences

Outpatient experiences include general pediatric rehabilitation clinics for new and follow-up evaluations, spasticity management and follow-up of patients who are discharged from the inpatient unit. Faculty are involved in many multidisciplinary clinics in which fellows will participate including:

Fellows will also be trained in procedures unique to and identifiable with the field of PRM, including EMG and nerve conduction studies, phenol neurolysis, botulinum toxin injections and intrathecal baclofen pump management.

Weekly didactics focused on common topics in PRM as well as monthly PRM journal club will be scheduled in addition to participation in Pediatric and PM&R Grand Rounds and Cincinnati Children's fellow didactics and research / education training.

Mentorship

Mentorship for research training will be provided through teams including faculty within the Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation and from other divisions at Cincinnati Children's. Faculty in the Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation at Cincinnati Children's currently includes five physicians trained in both pediatrics and PM&R, as well as one full-time PhD faculty researcher. We welcome inquiries and applications year-round from residents who are completing their training in categorical PM&R or combined pediatrics / PM&R residency programs.
