Overview
The Genetics Education Program for Nurses (GEPN) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center offers multiple options for continuing education.
The Web-Based Genetics Institute (WBGI) is a teacher facilitated online course with weekly assignments. 195.9 nursing contact hours will be awarded to nurses who participate in an entire course and complete all related assignments and evaluations. The WBGI is hosted on Blackboard course management system, and will be taught using an asynchronous collaborative learning format. The WBGI is divided into three modules. The upcoming sessions will run from:
- July 31 - December 4, 2009 (one-week of 'online' orientation begins July 27th), $1200
Teacher facilitated online course with weekly assignments. 21.25 nursing contact hours will be awarded to nurses who participate in an entire course and complete all related assignments and evaluations.
- May 29 - July 3, 2009 - (orientation begins May 25th), $400
- September 25 - October 30, 2009 - (Orientation begins September 21st), $400
The GEPN at Cincinnati Children's offers an independent self-paced continuing education module on Nurses' Role in Pharmacogenetics / Pharmacogenomics, Genetics is Relevant Now: Nurses' Views and Patient Stories, Environmental Genetics and Complex Diseases, Promoting Informed Decision Making about Genetic Test, Ethical and Social Issues Related to Genetic Testing, and Interpreting Family History. The modules can be completed from a Personal Computer or Macintosh Apple. Please review the minimum computer requirements needed.
Future educational offerings are currently in various stages of development. The Continuing Education portion of our web site will be updated as future offerings become available.
Accreditation
Contact hours will be awarded to nurses who participate in an entire course and complete all related evaluations.
A processing fee is required.
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (OH-046/9-1-09) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
