Educational Preparation

Educational Preparation Needed by Nursing Faculty to Implement Curriculum Strategies

Group 1

  1. Participate in ongoing (lifelong) learning through genetics educational opportunities.
  2. Receive, from participants, updated genetic material from GSI, other genetics conferences or off the Web.
  3. Attend brief genetics updates (provided by GSI participants) to motivate learning.
  4. Identify available money for genetic research and education.
  5. Use local science faculty to provide updates/brown bag sessions.
  6. Network with other faculty around the country who are interested in genetics.
  7. Advocate for hiring nurse faculty with stated/demonstrated interest in genetics for new appointments.

Group 2  

  1. Obtain genetics continuing education.
  2. Use available genetics information/education resources for own learning.
  3. Obtain support of school leaders for genetics education.
  4. Use GSI participants as a conduit to genetic information and educational resources.

Group 3  

  1. Receive genetics updates via e-mail to entire faculty or on faculty electronic/real bulletin boards.
  2. Participate in genetics journal club.
  3. Participate in brown bag genetics educational sessions.
  4. Orient to new genetics teaching strategies.
  5. Use Web sites bookmarked by GPNF.
  6. Use GSI participant as a resource for teaching genetics.
  7. Collaborate with GSI participant to write grants, articles, courses.
  8. Complete genetics courses, formal or self-study.
  9. Obtain continuing education in genetics.
  10. Use genetics audio visual materials for own learning.
