Overview
The Nursing School Genetics Curriculum Modules were adapted from materials and learning activities used in the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center's Genetics Education Program for Nurses (GEPN) Web-based Genetics Institute (WBGI). [Prows CA, Hetteberg C, Hopkin RJ, Latta K. K, Powers SM: Development of a web-based genetics institute for a nursing audience. The Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing, 2004); 35(5), 223-231.] The purpose of the Modules is to enable nursing faculty to integrate genetics content into their curricula.
Each of the 14 Modules consists of a set of assignments, answers and instructional resources that can be used in a variety of ways. (See Table 1 and Table 2.) Table 1 demonstrates possible ways in which portions of the content or assignments or both within individual Modules can be integrated into existing credit awarding nursing courses. Or, the Modules can be used to create a genetics nursing course and some examples are provided in Table 2.
Each assignment page consists of (See Table 3):
- Objective(s)
- Definitions of Module Terms and / or a Topical Outline
- Suggested Content Overview
- Suggested Learning Activities
- Suggested Online / Classroom Activities
We recommend that you use the Objective(s), Definitions of Module Terms, Topical Outline and Content Overview as they are presented. However, you can use some or all of the Learning Activities and Online / Classroom Activities that are appropriate for your students. The Answers / Summaries have been provided for each of the assignments. In addition all of the Modules have Supplemental Resources that you and / or your students can use for additional reading / study.

Cost
The cost is $450 for the set of 14 modules (price change effective June 1, 2007).
The modules are distributed on CD-ROM. Files are saved either as rich text format (.rtf) or portable document file (.pdf) so that you can print them for face-to-face classes or post them to your online academic credit awarding course.
