The Genetics Education Program for Nurses (GEPN) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides the following frequently asked questions and answers about the Nursing Curriculum Modules:

I teach at several branches / campuses of our university. Can I use the set of Modules for all the courses I teach at those campuses?

No. Within the copyright statement it says, "If your nursing education program encompasses more than one campus, an additional copy of the Modules for each campus must be purchased." You may use the purchased set of Modules to increase genetics content in your existing courses that award academic credit and/or to create a genetics nursing academic credit awarding course at one campus / branch of a university. Other faculty who teach at that campus may also use the Modules to increase genetics content in their courses that award academic credit.

I teach courses in our college's Undergraduate, RN Completion and Graduate Degree programs. Can I use the set of Modules for courses in all of these programs?

Yes, as long as the courses are at the same branch / campus of your college.

I can see using the learning activities and handouts, found within the Modules, in a variety of ways. Can I use these learning activities and handouts for some of the continuing education sessions I offer within the community?

It is necessary for you to send Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center's Genetics Education Program for Nurses a written request to use Module content for continuing education purposes. In the request, please indicate the:

  • Specific portions of the Modules you wish to use
  • Title, date, and intended audience of the offering
  • Method of delivering Module materials to the audience
  • Number of people who will be receiving the materials

It is important to note, that several of the activities in the Modules refer learners to outside websites for specific online activities. The Genetics Education Program for Nurses at Cincinnati Children's has no ownership of any of the materials or activities at those outside web sites. Please refer to the outside web sites' copyright statements if you wish to use their materials for your continuing education sessions.

Our school of nursing is associated with a hospital and many of our faculty provide inservices to staff as well as teach nursing students in our nursing school courses. Since our hospital school of nursing will be purchasing the Modules, can our faculty use them for both purposes?

The purpose of the Modules is to enable nursing faculty to integrate genetics content into their degree granting curricula. To use the materials from the Module for continuing education purposes it will be necessary for your faculty members to send the Cincinnati Children's Genetics Education Program for Nurses written requests to do so. In the requests, please indicate the:

May I purchase my own individual copy of the Nursing School Genetics Curriculum Modules?

Yes. You may use your individual copy for any of the degree awarding courses you teach within one nursing school / college campus. Copyright permission is not granted for using the materials in more than one nursing school / college campus.
