My colleagues and I at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center have developed the new distance learning Master's Degree in Education program, a collaborative project with the University of Cincinnati College of Education and College of Medicine.

This accredited, online program was designed for busy physicians and other health-care professionals with full-time clinical and teaching responsibilities.

Through this program interested physicians and other health-care professionals will gain more in-depth background in the fundamentals and science of education that will allow professional growth in medical education and educational research.

The program allows the participant to earn an accredited Master's Degree in Education from a major university in a convenient, flexible, and accessible format.

Knowledge gained in this program will help participants succeed in today's changing healthcare environment with its increased demands on medical providers.

The program is built on a long heritage of academic excellence at one of the nation's leading universities and medical centers. It is tailored to be flexible and accessible to working health-care professionals without disruption of their professional practice.

Using internet-enabled small group interactions, multimedia presentations, video-conferencing, online coursework, individual studies, and practicum, master's program participants acquire knowledge and competencies that can lead to career advancement and professional growth in the field of medical education and research.

Please review our information and if you have questions regarding the program, feel free to contact the program coordinator, Lea Alaee, at lea.alaee@cchmc.org or 513-636-4183.

Message from Associate Director Kadriye Lewis, EdD

Greetings!

Kadriye Lewis, EdDIt is time to make medical teaching a profession, one that grows and improves over time while offering the potential for continuous self-renewal for individuals who want to pursue a career as a medical educator. In this respect, medical professionals must acquire suitable knowledge that enables them to function effectively as a teacher. With this in mind we are proud to offer an Online Master's Degree in Education tailored to physicians and other healthcare professionals in this advanced technological age.

The making of a good teacher is a multifaceted and continuous process. No longer can we assume "If you know your subject, you can teach it." or "Teachers are born - not made." The proliferation of digital technologies has provided flexible educational opportunities that can help us improve and reinvent ourselves as teachers. Online delivery and web-based resources support and encourage very powerful learning environments to facilitate life long learning. Our online program offers a structured, authentic and rigorous educational experience to physicians and other healthcare professionals who lack formal background in educational pedagogy. The major goals of this graduate education are to instill in each participant an understanding of and a capacity for scholarship, independent judgment, academic rigor, and intellectual honesty. In this sprit, our program participants and faculty have a shared obligation to work together to foster these goals through relationships that advance freedom of inquiry, demonstrate individual and professional integrity, and encourage common respect.

We look forward to welcoming all qualified applicants. If you have any questions regarding our Online Master's Degree in Education for Physicians and Other Healthcare Professionals program, please feel free to contact us by phone or email! We are here to assist you in all steps of the process: from your application to graduation and beyond!
