Overview

The Divisions of Neurology and Developmental Disabilities at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center currently have an opening in the new Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Residency Program, beginning July 2003 with completion June 2007.

This growing program offers a variety of excellent opportunities for the interested trainee in child neurology and neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Program Description
The Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Program at Cincinnati Children's combines training in child neurology and neurodevelopmental disabilities to study such conditions as autism, cerebral palsy and cognitive disorders. The program has recently been approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Pediatrics.

Graduates will be prepared to care for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities in an academic or clinical practice setting and will be board eligible in pediatrics, child neurology and neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Training Objectives
The program is extended to a total of four years beyond general pediatric training to allow for focus on research and basic or clinical sciences in the fourth year.

During your training in neurodevelopmental disabilities, you would complete:

  • 18 months of combined child neurology and neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • 12 months of clinical adult neurology
  • 18 months of clinical or basic science, research, and electives that will include neuroradiology, neuropathology, electrophysiology and other areas of your interest

You would also participate in multispecialty clinics and in your own assigned weekly continuity clinic. There are faculty preceptors in the clinic and assigned mentors to assist you in planning for your career in neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Eligibility
For residency application and board certification eligibility, the applicant must have completed two years of general pediatrics in an approved US training program. For non-US citizens, a permanent US residency status or valid J1 visa is required.
