Pharmacy Residency Programs

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a 628 bed tertiary care academic medical center. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a 622 bed tertiary care academic medical center which offers the following residency training programs:

  • Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy,
  • Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) in Pediatrics,
  • Combined PGY1 Pharmacy / PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership with a concurrent masters degree from the University of Cincinnati.

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program

The goal of the PGY1 pharmacy residency is to train pharmacists to be competent in providing direct patient care to a variety of pediatric patient populations. Individuals completing the residency program will have the skills needed to complete a PGY2 pharmacy residency in pediatrics or to practice as a decentralized staff pharmacist in a pediatric setting.

PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program

The goal of the PGY2 pediatric pharmacy residency is to develop skills required to become a proficient pediatric clinical pharmacy specialist. The residency program builds on doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in pediatric pharmacy. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pediatric pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced pediatric patient care or other specialized pediatric positions, along with board certification.

PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency Program

The goal of the combined PGY1/PGY2/MS Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency Program is to train competent clinical pharmacists and develop them into confident organizational pharmacy leaders. This training occurs at a nationally and internationally renowned pediatric medical center dedicated to the care of infants, children, and adolescents. Individuals completing the residency program will have the clinical and leadership skills needed to begin shaping the future of pharmacy divisions. To supplement experiences gained during residency at Cincinnati Children's, the online Master's in Pharmacy Leadership at the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy will provide didactic opportunities for the resident to understand key areas of human resources, finance, leadership, quality improvement, and communication, among other key areas. The Master's in Pharmacy Leadership is an established program that offers the opportunity for the resident to collaborate with other HSPAL residents, other master's students in the program, and a diverse group of nationally recognized pharmacy leaders from across the country.
