Overview

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is a 410 bed tertiary care academic medical center which offers postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency training. The purpose of the PGY1 residency program is to train pharmacists to be competent in providing direct patient care to a variety of pediatric patient populations. The outcomes of our program include the ability to:

  1. Manage and improve the medication use process
  2. Provide evidence-based patient centered medication therapy management with interdisciplinary teams
  3. Exercise leadership and practice management skills
  4. Demonstrate project management skills
  5. Provide medication and practice-related education / training
  6. Utilize medical informatics

The residency offers training in:

  • General and subspecialty pediatrics
  • Critical Care
    • Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)
    • Cardiac Intensive Care (CICU)
    • Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)
  • Transplantation
  • Ambulatory patient care
  • Practice management

The residency program tailors the professional goals of the resident by complementing required activities with a wide selection of elective activities.

Cincinnati Children's provides the ideal tertiary and ambulatory care settings to foster the development of a contemporary pediatric pharmacy practitioner. The resident will participate in daily patient-centered interdisciplinary rounds, attend pertinent committee meetings, participate in DUE and Performance Improvement activities and contribute to the teaching activities of the department. The resident will participate in all aspects of pharmaceutical care provided at the medical center.

Each resident will be expected to complete a major residency project during the year. The project must deal with a subject pertinent to pharmaceutical care services within the medical center. It must be of direct benefit to the division as well as the resident. The resident is expected to complete the project and submit a written manuscript in a format suitable for publication.

As part of the total educational experience, the resident will be required to staff the pharmacy every third weekend. The resident will alternate covering distributive and clinical activities during this service component.

Application

This one year residency begins June 23, 2008. The residency offers a stipend of $48,500 and full employee benefits. 

Applicants should be highly motivated PharmD degreed pharmacists eligible for licensure in Ohio. Applicants must be participants in the ASHP matching program in order to be considered for the residency. Applications received prior to January 4, 2008, will receive preferential consideration for the on-site interview process.
