Orientation
The goal of orientation is to provide residents with the skills and tools they need to adjust to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and begin their training year. Resident orientation focuses on four major areas:
- Ethics
- Clinical training
- Professional development
Ethics didactics focus on a review of APA Ethics and Ohio Law, a discussion of confidentiality and the medical team, and case studies that help residents learn about ethical issues related to working in a medical center. Residents also receive training in clinical issues, including rapport building with children, parents and diverse clients, report writing and assessment. With respect to professional development, residents receive training in establishing relationships with other disciplines, professional communication, time management, and dictation. The orientation process continues over the first several months of residency through required didactics held for residents.

Social Events
Residents are invited to a number of social events throughout the year. The Cincinnati Children's Pediatric Residency program offers many social events for Cincinnati Children's residents including clubs, sports teams and community projects. These social outings provide Psychology Residents with an opportunity to form life-long friendships, relax and have fun with their medical colleagues.
Cincinnati Children's sponsors several social events for Cincinnati Children's faculty, staff, fellows and residents (e.g., Winter Holiday Party, Welcome Reception, Graduation), which provide an opportunity to socialize outside of the hospital setting. The Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology also sponsors several social events for psychology trainees including a Cincinnati Reds Game, picnic and Holiday Party.
