Simulation and Emergency Training

The Center for Simulation and Research at Cincinnati Children’s was the first pediatric simulation center in the United States. We provide innovative simulation-based programs to enhance patient safety and promote experiential learning for all members of the healthcare team.

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support Courses (ACLS) given by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center present information and skills training needed for the management of serious cardiac emergencies and arrest in the adult patient. Small group teaching is emphasized, and use of the human patient simulator is included.

We offer ACLS in an online module that will take approximately eight to 12 hours to complete. This is followed by skills testing at the Center for Simulation and Research at our Winslow location. The online module and access key are emailed to paid course registrants immediately upon registration. Participants are required to bring documentation of completing this online module to participate in the skills testing portion and to receive the ACLS certification card.

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(s)™.

Nurse Participant: Contact hours will be awarded to nurses who attend the entire program and complete an evaluation tool. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (OH-046) is an approved provider of continuing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation (OBN-001-91/ 9-1-06).

The ACLS Program at Cincinnati Children's is approved by the Ohio State Board of EMS to offer CE Programs under Section 4765-17 of the ORC. Accreditation No. 1238.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses given by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center are sponsored by the American Heart Association. These courses present information and skills needed for management of seriously ill or injured pediatric patients.

The Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMS-C) Education program is part of the Emergency Department at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. EMS-C provides training and continuing education programs to pediatric emergency care providers, including local EMS providers and agencies. Our mission is to provide exceptional educational training programs to all who provide emergency care to children. A federal grant program supports state and local action.

Continuing Education

The Division of Emergency Medicine, EMSC Education at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is dedicated to offering educational opportunities for the prehospital care provider. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) continuing education lectures are offered the third Wednesday of every month from 7-9 pm. Classes are held in the EMSC Education Center, located on the second floor of the Medical Education and Resource Center (MERC) and the second floor conference room at the Liberty Campus. Lectures are now available to be viewed on videotape / DVD. All sessions are recorded and can be viewed for continuing education credits. Contact the EMSC Education office for further details.
