Pediatric Primary Care Track

Three-Year Schedule

At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the Primary Care Track of the Pediatric Residency Program provides a rigorous three-year training schedule that involves inpatient and inpatient experiences as follows:

Year One

Outpatient

  • Private Practice*** -- 1 month
  • Continuity Clinic* -- 1 month
  • Acute Care/Advocacy*** -- 1 month
  • Emergency Department* -- 1 month
  • Vacation – 1 month

Inpatient

  • General Inpatient Ward*** --3 months
  • Hematology/Oncology*** -- 1 month
  • Cardiology inpatient*** -- 1 month
  • Neonatal Intensive Care*** -- 1 month
  • Newborn Nursery*** -- 1 month

Year Two

Outpatient

  • Continuity Clinic** -- 1 month
  • Emergency Department* -- 2 months
  • Elective** -- 2 months
  • CCDD** -- 1 month (or Adolescent)
  • Vacation – 1 month

Inpatient

  • Gen.Inpt. Ward*** -- 1 month
  • Surgery*** -- 1 month
  • Night Float* -- 1 month (2 - 2 week blocks)
  • Pediatric ICU*** -- 1 month
  • Neonatal Intensive Care*** -- 1 month

Year Three

Outpatient

  • Continuity Clinic** -- 1 month
  • Adolescent Clinic** -- 1 month (or Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics)
  • Child Psych/Private Practice** -- 1 month
  • Emergency Department* -- 2 months (1 month supervisory)
  • OPA Senior – 1 month
  • Elective** -- 1 month
  • Comm. Newborn Nursery*** -- 1 month
  • Vacation – 1 month

Inpatient

  • Neonatal Intensive Care*** -- 1 month
  • Pediatric ICU*** -- 1 month
  • General Inpatient Ward*** -- 2 months

Totals

Supervisory Role – 5 months

Outpatient – 17 months

Inpatient – 16 months

*    Indicates night-call-free (in year one, Private Practice month may be night-call free instead of Continuity Clinic month if distance to Private Practice site greater than Continuity Clinic site)

**   Indicates limited night-call (two – four per month)

*** Regular night-call (every fourth night)
