Doctoral Program
Graduation Requirements
Student progress in the first two years prior to selection of a Dissertation Research Committee is monitored by the Program Director and the Initial Advisory Committee on a monthly basis. Subsequently, the thesis advisor, the Dissertation Research Committee and the Program Director monitor student progress at frequent intervals. Criteria for normal progress in the Doctoral program is defined as:
- obtaining a grade of B or above in all didactic required courses and maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 grade average
- participation in the Immunobiology Journal Club and required seminars
- attendance at the Distinguished Lecturer in Immunology Series
- completion of at least two lab rotations and selection of an advisor by the end of the first year
- passing the written and oral candidacy examinations
- completion of a total 135 graduate credit hours for the doctoral degree within the specified time stipulated by the rules of the Graduate School of the University of Cincinnati
- submission and oral defense of a satisfactory doctoral dissertation or its equivalent
Required Coursework
- two quarters of molecular biology
- one quarter of molecular genetics
- core courses in Immunology
- one quarter of biological statistics
- one quarter of ethics in research
- elective courses
