Master's Degree Program

Graduation Requirements

Student progress in the Master's degree program is monitored by the Program Director and an Advisory Committee on a monthly basis. Subsequently, the research advisor, the Research Committee (composed of at least three faculty members) and the Program Director monitor student progress at frequent intervals. Criteria for normal progress in the Master's degree program is defined as:
  • obtaining a grade of B or above in all didactic required courses and maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 grade average
  • participation in the Immunobiology Journal Club and required seminars
  • attendance at the Distinguished Lecturer in Immunology Series
  • completion of at least two lab rotations and selection of an advisor by the end of the first year
  • completion of a total 45 graduate credit hours for the Master's degree within the specified time stipulated by the rules of the Graduate School of the University of Cincinnati
  • submission and oral defense of a satisfactory dissertation. The Master's thesis is similar to the doctoral dissertation except that the research and written description thereof are generally not as extensive. In the event that a student enrolled in the Doctoral program chooses for any reason not to remain in the program, they will be eligible to apply for a Master's degree granted they have the permission of their Research Committee and meet the full requirements for the Master's Degree.

  • two quarters of molecular biology
  • one quarter of molecular genetics
  • core courses in Immunology
  • one quarter of biological statistics
  • one quarter of ethics in research
