Arts and Musical Attractions

The respected Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performs in Music Hall, a treasure on the National Register of Historic Places. Each summer brings the best in rock, alternative, gospel and symphonic music to Riverbend Music Center on the banks of the Ohio River.

Every July, the city sizzles with the sounds of the Jazz Festival and Queen City Blues Fest. Playhouse in the Park is one of the country's major regional theaters. The University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music dims the house lights for operas, concerts and recitals nearly every night of the year.

The popular Broadway Series at the Aronoff Center for the Performing Arts brings the best of the Big Apple to the Queen City of the West. Cincinnati Ballet offers a strong repertoire, and the Cincinnati Opera stages four grand operas each summer. The Cincinnati Art Museum traces more than 5,000 years of visual arts, while downtown's Contemporary Arts Center showcases the latest works.

The city's sense of fun often spills into the streets, with Oktoberfest, Black Family Reunion, A Taste of Cincinnati, Ujime Cinci-bration and Riverfest taking over downtown Cincinnati. The river, too, lures fun-seekers with sightseeing cruises, water sports and floating restaurants.

Athletic Events and Outdoor Activities

Opening day for the Cincinnati Reds, the first professional baseball team, is unofficially acknowledged as Cincinnati's national holiday. The Cincinnati Bengals, AFC victors in 1981 and 1988, and the Cincinnati Cyclones, an International Hockey League team, bring fans to their feet with exciting action.

The University of Cincinnati Bearcats, a perennial basketball powerhouse, play in Conference USA. The cross-town Xavier Musketeers are national contenders in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

With the Ohio River as her threshold, Cincinnati's natural grace extends to one of the nation's largest urban park systems. Golfers can choose from more than 90 public and private courses, and thrill-seekers need only head north to the roller coasters at Paramount's Kings Island.

The acclaimed Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, next to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, brings endangered and exotic species to the Midwest. The new Oceanic Adventures Newport Aquarium demystifies the exotic worlds of water creatures at its home on the Ohio River's northern Kentucky shore.
