Applicants to the Molecular and Developmental Biology at Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation and the University of Cincinnati are strongly urged to apply for admission before March 1 of the year in which they desire admission. First-year students are enrolled in July of the academic year.

For admission to the program, a student should have:

  • At least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) (Institution code: 1833; Department code: 0208) - See our frequently asked questions about admissions for recommended scores
  • A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Strong background in biology
  • Scores from the TOEFL exam if English is not the student's primary language (Institute code: 1833; Department code: 99)

Application Procedure for Molecular and Developmental Biology Graduate Program

STEP 1: Complete the Personal Data Sheet [Download template in Word.] and email as an attachment to mdbprog@cchmc.org.
*If you do not have access to MS Word, you can download a PDF and mail to the address below.

STEP 2: Request that an official copy of your undergraduate transcript(s) be sent directly to the program from your degree-granting institution at our mailing address listed below.

STEP 3: Request that your GRE and TOEFL (if English is not your native language) scores be sent to the program directly from ETS.

  • For GRE: Institution code: 1833; Department code: 0208
  • For TOEFL: Institute code: 1833; Department code: 99

STEP 4: Request that three letters of recommendation be sent to the program, mailed directly from the referee to our mailing address below. Letters can also be emailed (mdbprog@cchmc.org), but it is highly recommended that a backup and signed paper copy also be mailed.

STEP 5: Compose a Personal Background Statement explaining your research experience, awards and purpose in seeking admission to the graduate program, and email as an attachment to mdbprog@cchmc.org. You can download and use the following template if you prefer. STEP 6: Apply to the University of Cincinnati and pay your $40 registration fee. The registration fee will be refunded if you are selected for an interview. (Please note: This link will take you to a general online application site at UC. You will need to select the Molecular and Developmental Biology graduate program from a list of all possible graduate programs.)

After preliminary screening of all applications, selected applicants may be scheduled for a personal interview. The interview serves as an opportunity for the applicant to meet faculty and graduate students, and to see the program's research facilities and for members of the Program to evaluate the prospective student.
