Training Grant Information

A number of training grants are available to students in the Molecular and Developmental Biology Graduate Program at Cincinnti Children's Research Foundation and the University of Cincinnati.

Organogenesis

This training grant includes two graduate students and three postdoctoral fellows positions

Prenatal Endocrinology training grant

The training grant's purpose is to provide funding for three postdoctoral fellows and three PhD's within the UC Graduate Program for careers as independent investigators in academic medicine.

Requirements Post docs candidates must have an MD or PhD degree or both. Training will include course work in molecular and developmental biology, epidemiology and biostatistics, a seminar series, an annual review of progress and a yearly symposium for presentations of studies.

Pulmonary and Cardiovascular Development

The training grant in Pulmonary and Cardiovascular Development has three slots for graduate students and three for postdoctoral fellows.

The candidate must be a US citizen or permanent resident.

The training grant in Pulmonary and Cardiovascular Development has three slots for graduate students and three for postdoctoral fellows. Inquiries regarding the availability of slots, membership on the training faculty, etc. can be made to Dr. Whitsett (PI) or Dr. Lessard (executive director).

The requirements for student trainees are

1. at least a bachelor's degree in sciences
2. a strong academic record,
3. a dissertation project that has relevance to the goals of the the training program (i.e. projects concerned with pulmonary and cardiovascular development have the highest priority but related topics will be considered),
4. three letters of reference including the candidate's sponsor,
5. students who have completed the qualifying exam are given preference.

The requirements for postdoctoral trainees are

1. a PhD or MD degree
2. a strong academic record and productive graduate experience (papers),
3. a research project relevant to the goals of the the training program (i.e. projects concerned with pulmonary and cardiovascular development have the highest priority but related topics will be considered),
4. three letters of reference including the candidate's sponsor,
5. evidence that the sponsor ha adequate funds to support the proposed research.

Our policy is to make one year appointments that can be renewed for an additional year based on performance. In general, our goal is to limit training grant support to two years.

The decision to fund a trainee on the Pulmonary and Cardiovascular Development Training Grant is based on the following criteria:

1. at least a bachelor's degree in science
2. academic record
3. the relevance of the dissertation project to the goals of the training program (i.e. projects concerned with pulmonary and cardiovascular development have highest priority but related topics will be considered)
4. three letters of reference including one from the candidate's sponsor
5. productivity of the sponsor
6. NIH funding for the project on the part of the sponsor
7. students who have completed their qualifying exam are given preference.

This training grant includes four graduate students and three postdoctoral fellow positions.
