This program is intended to provide clinical and basic science research opportunities for undergraduate students in the laboratories of Pediatric faculty in the College of Medicine. The ulitmate goal of this program is to provide students with an excellent research foundation for making career choices in the biomedical sciences.

Selected students are placed with research faculty with expressed interest in training undergrads. The students work with their laboratories to learn basic techniques and to conduct a research project.

A strength of Cincinnati Children's is the fact that there are over 350 faculty, many of whom have active research programs. Faculty work in all areas of pediatric medicine including the study of developmental biology, congenital disorders, inherited diseases, cancer, immunology, etc.

The program is usually 10 weeks in length, although this can vary based on individual circumstances. Presently students earn approximately $3200 for the summer.

In addition to the hands-on laboratory experience, students participate in various social and academic programs with students from the various other summer programs at the University. Programs include introduction to various activites at Cincinnati Children's, two scientific writing seminars, and ethics in research seminar and an introduction to bioinformatics.

At the end of the summer there is a career day and a poster session presented by students in the various summer programs. A special speaker is chosen to talk at the end of this session.
