The Experience
As a SURF fellow, you will meet students from all around the country who have come to Cincinnati for the summer to explore the possibility of a career in biomedical research! Exciting and diverse opportunities in basic science and clinical research await you -- hands-on experience in one of our cutting edge laboratories, working under the supervision of our world renowned research faculty and taking full advantage of the opportunities available to you in a professional research environment.
In addition to your laboratory responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of cultural and social activities throughout the summer. You might get to go on a canoe trip or to a Red's game; spend a day at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens or King's Island; see a concert at Riverbend Music Center, or a play at the Aronoff, Playhouse in the Park or Ensemble Theatre.
You will also have the opportunity to take some research-oriented training courses and participate in research seminars, journal clubs, career days, and a research poster competition. A tentative schedule of these events are available on our 2005 Calendar.
Dorm rooms are available on Main Campus, a 5 minute Shuttle ride from the College of Medicine. University food service is optional, and rates vary with the type of food selected. Specific information about University room and board costs is provided upon acceptance to the program. Interns who wish to arrange their own living accommodations may do so. Interns should arrange for health insurance coverage. Health care is also available on a fee-for-service basis through the University Student Health Service. Parking and access to the University Recreation Center are also available.
We hope you will join us for an exciting and stimulating summer of scientific exploration!
