The specialty of Adolescent Medicine was brought to Cincinnati Children’s by Jerry Rauh, MD, in 1965. The fellowship program of Cincinnati Children’s Division of Adolescent Medicine was established in 1972. By 2014, 55 physicians had completed the training program. The program gained accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 1998. The goal of the Adolescent Medicine Fellowship Program is to prepare individuals for careers in leadership positions in adolescent medicine. Graduates from our training program most often take leadership positions in academic medicine. Fellows have also chosen to become leaders in college health, community programs and government. Preparation for these positions is achieved by fostering the development of clinical expertise in adolescent medicine and the development of expertise in a scholarly area applicable to adolescent medicine. The faculty of the training program works with each fellow to define a career path and ensure appropriate preparation using the rich resources available at Cincinnati Children’s.
