O'Grady Residency in Psychology Program Overview

The O'Grady Residency in Psychology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is an internship in health service psychology with training in three tracks behavioral medicine, clinical child and acute care. We strongly encourage applicants to review the clinical and research training experiences provided in each track in the brochure listed below and reflect on which track is the best match with their former training and long-term goals. Although applicants may apply to more than one track, we discourage this as it can be challenging to show a strong fit to more than one track.

Behavioral Medicine

Interns in the behavioral medicine track provide inpatient and outpatient behavioral health assessment and treatment to child and adolescent patients and their families. Interns complete several rotations, gaining experience treating patients with chronic illnesses, adjustment disorders, behavioral problems, and anxiety / depression.

Clinical Child

Interns in the child clinical track gain year-long training experiences in conducting empirically-based assessment and family focused services to improve the functioning of children and adolescents with ADHD (both with and without a broad range of co-morbid conditions) through the Center for ADHD. Interns also use evidence-based interventions to address other primary concerns in children and adolescents based on their interests.

Acute Care

Interns in the acute care track gain experience working within psychiatric inpatient, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and medical clinic settings. There are opportunities to treat youth with a range of behavioral and mental health difficulties (internalizing and externalizing concerns, PTSD, eating disorders), to provide mental health services to gender expansive youth, to conduct assessments with youth with neurodevelopmental concerns, and to co-lead DBT Skills Group. 

All training takes place at Cincinnati Children's a nationally recognized pediatric institution with a reputation for excellence in patient care, research and education.
