  • Overview

    The Procter Scholar Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is designed to support the development of highly skilled pediatricians with a strong commitment to a research career in academic pediatrics. The program is aimed at highly skilled MD or MD / PhD Pediatric Fellows and provides financial support and appropriate scientific mentoring to prepare independent investigators.

    Successful Candidates

    Proctor Scholars must hold a faculty-level position of have been formally offered a faculty-level position (such offer not being dependent upon receipt of the Proctor Scholar award), at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Proctor Scholars must devote at least 90% effort to independent research. Publications in peer-reviewed journals and K-level funding from NIH are among the expected outcomes of this award.

    Successful candidates will have a strong career commitment to a research career in academic pediatrics, a record of accomplishment in research, strong mentorship (with a clear path to independence), and well thought out, compelling research and training plans.

    Procter Scholar applicants must be US citizens or have a permanent visa. They must submit the following documents no later than Nov. 1.

    Documents Needed to Apply

    1. A curriculum vitae that includes undergraduate institution, field of concentration, medical school, details of postgraduate medical training, medical licensure, board certification, research experience, honors and awards and publications.
    2. Two letters of recommendation sent directly by faculty members who are familiar with your academic and clinical performance. For external candidates, one letter must be from either the chairman of the pediatrics department or the director of the relevant subspecialty program where you are in training. For internal candidates, one letter must be from your division director or department chair, and one from your proposed research mentor. The Division Director / Department Chair letter must directly address your faculty status. These letters must be mailed to:

    1. A synopsis, no longer than two pages, describing your career goals and type of training desired.
    2. A research proposal, no longer than three pages, describing your project.
    3. A list of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center faculty members who appear to offer the training you desire.
