Auxiliaries

The Cooperative Society

Bringing the comfort and warmth of home to our patients are the volunteers in the sewing room at Cincinnati Children's.
In 1884, The Cooperative Society became the first auxiliary established at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Their purpose is to unite women of diverse backgrounds to cooperatively pursue good deeds to benefit the patients, families and employees through the giving of their time, talent and funding.

The Cooperative Society funds an on-site sewing room where dedicated stitchers create children's clothing, blankets and quilts for beds and cribs, toys for use by the Division of Child Life, soft helmets for patients with neurological disorders and teaching tools used by the nursing staff.

Each year, The Cooperative Society hosts a luncheon at Cincinnati Children's to honor the community volunteers who sew for the hospital, whether in the sewing room or in their homes. Volunteers are recognized for dedication and years of service to the medical center.

The Cooperative Society also helps to brighten the medical center by decorating the lobbies and public spaces for the holidays.

Since 1979, The Cooperative Society has given more than $3 million to various programs at the medical center.  They are currently completing a $200,000 pledge to The Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children.  Prior to that, The Cooperative Society provided a $150,000 gift to the chapel.
