Meet Missy Wolf
Missy Wolf has been a nurse at Cincinnati Children’s for 16 years, working with children with cancer and terminal illnesses. She recently joined StarShine Hospice of Cincinnati Children’s, the only pediatric hospice in the region, and is devoted to helping these children and their families make the most of their time together.
Why do you work for StarShine?
This is not the natural process of life, a child dying before their parents. The families need support, information and a caring team to help them get through this devastating time. It is an honor to care for them, help them cherish the moments they have together and have peace when the end comes.
What is the most fulfilling aspect of your job?
The kids are truly inspirational to me. It’s just amazing how children will remain upbeat and happy and just want to play, even when they’re so sick. The children have taught me so much about courage and what it really means to live each day to its fullest.
What do you do for fun?
I love to go ballroom dancing or ride my horse, Buck. Both of these activities are completely different from what I do during work, and they provide a nice escape. Especially Buck – I find a lot of peace when I’m with him.
What is your life philosophy?
When I wake up in the morning, it’s a totally new day. I don’t hold grudges, I don’t over-think. I just take one day at a time. I don’t know if my way of thinking helps me do my job or if my job has made me think this way. Regardless, I understand how important it is to make every day, every moment, count.
