    What’s sweeter than a dog who loves children? Our Dog Visitation Program is so successful because of the four-legged friends who staff the program. Meet our therapy dogs.

    Abby

    Vitals: Goldendoodle, female
    Tricks: Plays catch and fetch, stays and comes, down and up, sits, shakes, heels
    Favorite treat: Any doggie treat
    Bio: She is a friendly dog who loves attention. When visiting a dog park, Abby waits for other dogs to leave their owners and walks up to them to be petted.  She is a large dog who thinks she is a small dog and dreams of being a lap dog.

    Bandit

    Vitals: Yorkshire terrier, male
    Trick: Goes through a tunnel
    Favorite treat: Ice cream
    Bio: He loves to make people happy. He knows when he gets a bath that he will make a visit to Cincinnati Children’s.

    Buddy

    Vitals: Goldendoodle, male
    Tricks: Fetches, rolls over, holds hands with his paw, swims
    Favorite treats: Pig ears, dog biscuits, chew bones
    Bio: He was born on Christmas Day 2008. He has been a blessing every day. He loves to be with his family and he loves children.

    Faith

    Vitals: Shetland sheepdog, female
    Tricks: Responds to hand signals without voice; retrieves correct metal or leather article
    Favorite treat: Any kind of dog treat
    Bio: She is the most loving dog. She loves the elderly and children. She also kisses and plays with the other dogs at home.

    Vitals: Shetland sheepdog, female
    Tricks: Plays mouse, comes, sits, down, stays
    Favorite treat: Baby carrots, cheese-flavored rice cakes
    Bio: In addition to being a therapy dog with the elderly and children, she is also a reading dog in the public library.

    Bio: She is very loving and circles a lot.

    Bio: He loves to be treated like a baby and have everyone carry him around.

    Bio: He loves for children to brush and comb his hair.

    Bio: He is a best buddy for 24 / 7. Went to obedience school for six months.

    Bio: She loves to have kids chase her and loves running after a ball.

    Lucy

    Vitals: Mini Australian Labradoodle, female
    Tricks: Sits, down, stays, kisses
    Favorite treat: Itty Bitty Buddy Biscuits
    Bio: She is a pure diva and an only child. She will take her tennis ball and roll it to you. She loves the Activity Room and the Telemetry Floor at Cincinnati Children’s; she has the staff wrapped around her paws.

    Maggie

    Vitals: Beagle, female
    Favorite treat: Anything
    Bio: Adopted about two years ago and has fit in perfectly with her doggie cousins who are also Beagles. She is very sweet, patient and loves to have her tummy rubbed.

    Peach

    Vitals: Golden retriever, female
    Tricks: Shakes hands and barks on command
    Favorite treats: Has never found a food product she doesn’t like; however, buffalo jerky and cantaloupe are favorites
    Bio: She is a people-lover who has never met a stranger. While enthusiastic in her greeting, she has a friendly demeanor that puts people at ease. She competes in AKC rally and obedience trials and has earned several titles.

    Queen

    Vitals: Cavalier King Charles spaniel, female
    Tricks: Comes, sits, down, stays
    Favorite treat: Any dog treat
    Bio: Her only job in life is to sit on her owner’s lap. She loves her big sister, Belle.

    Sparky

    Vitals: Bedlington Terrier, male
    Tricks: Shaking hands and hiding his blanket and toys
    Favorite treat: Iams Biscuits and ice cubes
    Bio: Sparky’s lamb-like appearance is an immediate attraction. One patient likened his soft coat to cotton candy. A nurse said that Sparky taught her the “value of just offering a patient a hand to hold.”  He enjoys being read to by children and is a certified Reading Education Assistance Dog.

    Star

    Vitals: Golden retriever, female
    Tricks: Obedience and agility trained to voice and hand signals
    Favorite treats: Dog biscuits and “Scooby treats”
    Bio: She is an AKC-certified dog. At age 4 she gave birth to 10 beautiful puppies. She also provides community service as a therapy dog to nursing homes.

    Vitals: Newfoundland, female
    Tricks: Sneaks plastic containers off the kitchen counter
    Favorite treat: Almost anything
    Bio: She is trained for water rescue work.

    Zoe

    Vitals: Maltese, female
    Tricks: Speaks, stays, dances on hind legs
    Favorite treats: Greenies and Dingo chews
    Bio: She has been a therapy dog since 2008 and has more than 75 visits to hospitals, nursing homes and respite centers. Does library reading programs and will be featured (as Toto) in a performance of The Wizard of Oz in fall 2011.
