Halo Jacket / Cast or Brace Discharge Instructions

Call if you have any questions about the following:

  1. Redness, swelling, or drainage from the pin sites
  2. Pins becoming loose
  3. Motion of the head around the pins
  1. Changes in eye movements such as looking cross-eyed or having difficulty looking in a certain direction
  2. Inability to stick tongue out straight
  3. Problems with swallowing, voice changes
  4. New difficulty making facial expressions or asymmetric facial expressions, e.g., smiling
  5. Decreased movement in arms and legs
  6. Numbness and tingling in arms and legs
  7. New urinary wetting and/or new fecal soiling
  1. Abdominal pain
  2. Nausea / vomiting
  3. Pressure sores
  4. Respiratory difficulty
  5. Loosening of frame
  6. Movement of head

Please consult your physician regarding what activity level you should maintain.

If you need to reach the orthopaedic nurse before 4 pm Monday through Friday, call 513-636-4567. After 4 pm and during weekends and holidays, call 513-636-4200 and ask that the orthopaedic resident on call be paged.
