Imperforate Anus without a Fistula in Males
Imperforate anus without a fistula is an unusual malformation that occurs in less than 10 percent of all patients.
The rectum is completely blind and ends approximately two centimeters from the perineum. No meconium is present in the urine.
Diagnosis is confirmed by a radiologic study to determine the height of the malformation. This defect is frequently associated with Down syndrome.
Repair of Imperforate Anus Without Fistula in Males
A colostomy is indicated followed by a definitive repair.
The most common repair performed is the Posterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty / PSARP, which is performed on an elective basis usually within the first year of life.
