What is Advair Diskus®?
Fluticasone and Salmeterol (Advair Diskus®) are combined in a dry powder form. The combined medications control asthma by reducing the inflammation in the airways and relaxing the muscles in the airways to improve breathing. It is available as a dry powder inhaler and as a metered dose inhaler.

Special Instructions
This medication does not work immediately and should not be used for asthma attacks.
It may take a few weeks for this medicine to work. Remember that the medication prevents asthma symptoms, so children shouldn't stop taking it when their asthma symptoms improve. That means it's working.
Advair® should be used daily to help prevent the frequency and severity of asthma attacks. Always give as prescribed by your child's doctor. Do not use this medicine more or less often than is prescribed.
Read and follow instructions provided with the inhaler. Ask your child's doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about how to use Advair® Diskus.
Rinse mouth with water and spit after using the inhaler.
Never exhale into the device. Never wash any part of it.
Store it in a dry place. Protect from heat. Do not store in bathroom or kitchen.
Tell your child's doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medications, including any over-the-counter (OTC) medicine.
This medicine is good 30 days after removing the foil wrapper. Do not use after the expiration date on the package or 30 days after removing the foil wrapper.
If too much medication is taken by accident, call the Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), 513-636-5111 or 1-800-222-1222, or call your child's doctor immediately.
Keep this medication out of the reach of children.

If a dose is missed
For any medication information related to your child's dosing schedule and/or missed doses, contact the health care provider who prescribed the medication.

Side effects
Call your child's doctor if the following effects continue or are bothersome:
- Hoarseness
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Thrush (white spots in your child's mouth)

Warning signs
Call your child's doctor immediately if any of the following symptoms occur:
- If any of your asthma medicines do not seem to be working, or there is worsening asthma symptoms
- Your child is short of breath even after using his/her asthma rescue medication
- Your child cannot stop coughing

How to Use
- Open the diskus container by holding it in one hand, place the thumb of the other hand on the grip and push away until the mouthpiece is exposed and snaps into position.
- Push the lever away from you as far as it will go, until it clicks.
- Have your child exhale away from the device.
- Have your child put the mouthpiece to his / her lips. Instruct your child to:
- breathe steadily and deeply through the mouthpiece
- hold his / her breath for a count of 10
- close
