What is Amphotericin B?

Amphotericin B (FUNGIZONE") is a medication used to treat or prevent fungal infections. It may be given by injection or sometimes given by mouth or into the bladder.

Special Instructions

  • If this medication is being used at home, do not use after the expiration date on the bottle/container.
  • It may cause skin redness at places that have been treated with radiation.
  • Keep this medication out of the reach of children
  • If too much medication is taken by accident, call the Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), 513-636-5111 or 1-800-222-1222 or call your child's doctor right away.

Missed dose

For any medication information related to your child's dosing schedule and/or missed doses, contact the healthcare provider who prescribed the medication.

Side effects

Contact your child's doctor if symptoms persist or become bothersome:

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Stomach pain
  • Stinging and pain at injection site
  • Leg cramp/pain
  • Kidney problems
  • Headaches
  • General pain, including muscles and joints
  • Tiredness or fatigue

Warning signs

Call your child's doctor immediately if your child develops:

  • Fever
  • Shaking or chills
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea that lasts more than 24 hours
