What is diltiazem?
Diltiazem (Cardizem") is a calcium channel blocker. It is used to treat high blood pressure, and can also be used to treat chest pain. It can be given as an injection, tablet, capsule and your pharmacy may be able to make a liquid.
Special Instructions
Give this medicine only as directed by the doctor, and do not stop unless told to stop by your child's doctor.
Do not chew the sustained release tablets or capsules. They should be swallowed whole.
The medicine should be given at the same time every day and the same way – either with or without food.
Take with a full glass of water.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist before giving any other medicine or over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.
Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and wear sunscreen.
Do not use after the expiration date on the bottle/package.
If too much medicine is taken by accident, call the Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), 513-636-5111 or 1-800-222-1212, or call your child's doctor right away.
Keep this medication out of the reach of children.

For any medication information related to your child's dosing schedule and/or missed doses, contact the healthcare provider who prescribed the medication.
Side Effects
Call your child's doctor if the following effects continue or are bothersome:
Feeling dizzy or tired
Flushing
Upset stomach
Headache
