Intramuscular Injection (IM)

How Do You Give an Intramuscular Injection (IM)?

When medicine cannot be given by mouth, it may need to be given to a child by an injection or shot.

Shots can hurt. It’s important to recognize kids’ feelings about them. It’s OK for children of any age to say they don’t like the shot. You can let them know that it’s OK to for them to cry or say “ouch.”
