What is Ketorolac?

Ketorolac (Toradol") is an anti-inflammatory medicine used to treat pain, and is similar to ibuprofen. Ketorolac is routinely administered intravenously (through an IV) while patients are in the hospital, but it can be given by mouth as well.

Special instructions

  • If your child has an aspirin sensitivity, kidney problems, or bleeding problems, please tell your child's doctor
  • This medication should not be taken for more than 5 days
  • Taking this medication with food or milk may help decrease stomach upset
  • Do not give your child aspirin or ibuprofen while they are taking ketorolac
  • Do not use after the expiration date on the bottle / package
  • Keep this medication out of the reach of children
  • Store away from heat or direct light
  • Do not store in the bathroom medicine cabinet
  • If too much medicine is taken by accident, call the Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), 513-636-5111 or 1-800-222-1222, or call your child's doctor immediately

Side effects

Contact your child's doctor if symptoms persist or become bothersome:

  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Increased blood loss during or after surgery
  • Upset stomach / belly pain
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Kidney problems

Warning signs

Call your child's doctor immediately if your child:

  • Complains of new stomach pain
  • Experiences persistent nausea
  • Experiences heartburn
  • Develops dark bowel movements or has blood in the stool
