What is labetalol?

Labetalol (Trandate", Normodyne") is in a class of drugs known as beta-blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure. It can be given as a tablet, injection, or your pharmacist may be able to make a liquid. Back to top

Special Instructions

  • Give this medicine only as told by the doctor, and do not stop unless told to stop by your child's doctor.
  • Ask the doctor or pharmacist before giving any over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.
  • Make sure your child's doctor knows if your child has asthma or diabetes before taking this medicine.
  • It is best to take this medicine the same time each day the same way-either with or without food.
  • Do not use after the expiration date on the bottle / package.
  • If too much medicine is taken by accident, call the Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), 513-636-5111 or 1-800-222-1222, or call your child's doctor right away.
  • Keep this medication out of the reach of children.

Common Side Effects

Call your child's doctor if the following effects continue or are bothersome:
  • Feeling dizzy, tired or confused
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Trouble sleeping

Warning Signs

Call your child's doctor right away if your child has trouble breathing, fast or slow heartbeat, or has a severe headache or skin rash. Back to top
