What is Nystatin?
Nystatin (Mycostatin", Nilstat") is used to prevent and treat fungal infections (called thrush) in the mouth and for intestinal infections.

Special instructions
- Shake bottle well to mix medicine.
- Use the marked dropper that comes with the medicine or use a special medicine spoon or syringe to give the proper dose.
- For mouth infections, place one-half (1/2) of the dose in each side of the mouth or apply with a sponge tipped device that is provided. If your child is old enough, have your child hold the medicine in their mouth as long as possible and swish it around before. For intestinal infections, your child can swallow the medicine right away.
- If possible, give the medicine before your child eats or has a bottle, so it will last longer.
- Give all the doses ordered by the doctor. Do not stop giving the medicine before told to even if your child seems better. Do not use after the expiration date on the bottle / package.
- If too much medication is taken by accident, call the Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), 513-636-5111 or 1-800-222-1222, or call your child's doctor right away.
- Keep this medication out of the reach of children.
- Store this medication at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.

Missed dose

Warning signs
Call your child's doctor if any of the above side effects last for longer than 48 hours or if they are making your child extremely uncomfortable.
