What is sotalol?
Sotalol (Betapace®) belongs to a class of medications known as beta-blockers, and also in a class of medications known as antiarrythmics. It is used to treat irregular heartbeats. Sotalol is given as a tablet, or your pharmacist may be able to make a liquid.
Special Instructions

Give this medication only as directed, and do not stop unless directed to stop by your child's doctor.

It is best to take this medication on an empty stomach.

Antacids should be taken 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking sotalol.

Tell your child's doctor if your child has asthma or diabetes before administering this medication.

Be sure to keep all doctors appointments so that the doctor can make sure that this medicine is working.

Tell your child's doctor of other medications your child may be taking. This includes any prescriptions or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines.

Do not use after the expiration date on the bottle/package.

If too much medication is taken by accident, call the Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC), 513-636-5111, or 1-800-222-1222.

Keep this medication out of the reach of children.

Warning Signs
Call your child's doctor immediately if your child develops any of the following:

Wheezing or trouble breathing

Severe headache

Fainting or severe dizziness

Skin rash

Increase or decreased heart rate

Chest pain
-
Severe diarrhea or vomiting

Increased thirst
-
Swelling of the legs or ankles
