Adalimumab

Adalimumab (Humira®) is used to reduce a substance in the body that can cause inflamation.

Special Instructions

  • Refrigerate / protect from light
  • Make sure the medicine is clear and colorless before using
  • Check the expiration date
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible, then resume a normal schedule of every 2 weeks
  • Warm the medicine to room temperature for 30-60 minutes before giving the injection

To make the injection more comfortable:

    •  Put ice on the skin where you will be giving the injection--this will help numb the area
    • Check with your doctor about getting a prescription for numbing medicine.  The medicine is put on the skin 30 minutes before giving the injection
  • Give the injection slowly.

Warning

  • Do not use this medication after the expiration date on the bottle / package
  • Keep this medication out of the reach of children

Missed Dose

For any medication information related to your child's dosing schedule and/or missed doses, contact the healthcare provider who prescibed the medication.

Side Effects

  • Injection site reactions
    • redness
    • rash
    • swelling
    • itching
    • burning (generally lasts a few days)
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Headache
  • Nausea

Additional Information

Do not get a live virus immunization while taking this medicine. Your doctor or nurse can tell you if an immunization is considered a live virus.

Do not take this medicine if you have an infection and/or a fever.
