Your Medications

Medications Following Kidney Transplant

The Pediatric Kidney Transplant Program team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center will prescribe a variety of medications to take after the transplant.

Some of these medications will be taken for only a few months and others will be taken for as long as your child's transplant is working. Commitment to taking these medications as directed is essential to the success of the transplant.

It is important that you and your child know the medications, understand why they are given and what side effects to expect. Before you leave the hospital, your transplant coordinator will teach you and your child about the new medications.

You will also be given a written medication record with a list of all medications, their doses and when to take them. There will be frequent medication and dosage changes in the first few months after transplant. Your record will be updated as these changes occur.
