Nursing Careers Are Attracting Men

Cincinnati Children's recently received the first Best Workplace for Men in Nursing Award ever given by the American Assembly for Men in Nursing. We earned this recognition by launching a significant initiative to recruit and retain men in nursing. In two years, we increased the number of male nurses working at Cincinnati Children's to 130. We continue to recruit and retain men in nursing by offering job shadowing for high school males and high-lighting nursing as an attractive career option for men.

Kids Pitch In to Help Design Liberty Campus

Since 2001, a Patient Advisory Council made up of current and former patients has offered opinions about life at Cincinnati Children's. Their input has been so helpful that we formed a group of patients to give suggestions for our new Liberty Campus, opening August 11. This group's valuable feedback will be seen in the natural light, open spaces and colorful interiors throughout the new building. In fact, drawings from these patients hang on the walls of the construction trailer in order to keep this input top-of-mind  during the building of the facility. Find out more about Liberty Campus.

Babies, Spend More Time on Your Tummies

In an effort to reduce the occurrence of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), parents now put babies to sleep on their backs. However, babies who lie in one position too long may develop an abnormal head shape called plagiocephaly, or positional molding. To correct these flat spots, babies should spend less time in car seat carriers, swings and pumpkin seats and have supervised  tummy time. If these flat spots are not corrected at 3 months, babies may need to  wear a molding helmet for correction. For more  information, visit www.cincinnatichildrens.org (search word: plagiocephaly).
