U.S. News Ranks Cincinnati Children's Among Top 10 Pediatric Hospitals

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has again been named among the 10 best pediatric hospitals in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual "America's Best Hospitals" survey. Cincinnati Children's ranks 8th among the more than 250 children's hospitals in the United States.

"Our representation among the top 10 children's hospitals is a reflection of our mission to improve child health and transform delivery of care through fully integrated, globally recognized research, education and innovation," says James M. Anderson, president and chief executive officer of Cincinnati Children's. "We are committed to achieve for our patients the best outcomes, the best patient and family experience and the best value."

U.S. News has published "America's Best Hospitals" for 16 years as a starting point to help consumers find the highest quality care for difficult problems. Just 176 hospitals scored high enough this year to rank in even a single specialty out of all 6,007 U.S. medical centers.

To determine the best hospitals for pediatrics, U.S. News asked board-certified pediatricians to name five hospitals they consider best in their specialty for difficult cases, regardless of cost or location. The 25 hospitals ranked in pediatrics were cited by at least 3 percent of physicians who responded to U.S. News surveys in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

The survey is not the first by U.S. News this year in which Cincinnati Children's ranked among the nation's medical best. Earlier this year, U.S. News ranked the department of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's and the University of Cincinnati Medical Center the fourth best pediatric program at a medical school in the United States, behind only Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University. The fourth-place ranking, based on a survey of medical school deans and senior faculty, was found in the U.S. News & World Report annual guide to America's best graduate schools.

The "America's Best Hospitals" guide is scheduled for the July 18 edition of U.S. News, which hits newsstands July 11.
