Sarcoma Program Expertise and Care
Experience You Can Trust
Our team is part of the #1 pediatric cancer program in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. We treat about 200 patients each year with sarcoma and other rare tumors. This experience helps our specialists recognize complex cases and plan effective treatment.
We care for patients with conditions such as osteosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, desmoid tumors and other rare cancers that require specialized expertise.
Advanced Testing and Therapies
We offer advanced testing and treatments to care for patients with sarcoma while protecting healthy tissue and function. Our program provides proton therapy, a highly precise form of radiation that targets tumors while limiting damage to nearby organs. Our surgeons specialize in limb‑sparing surgery and advanced reconstruction, so amputations are rarely needed. Some patients may benefit from specialized procedures such as sentinel lymph node biopsy and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). If a tumor returns or does not respond to treatment, we can also perform detailed genetic testing of the tumor to help match patients with targeted medicines or clinical trials.
Coordinated Team Approach
Sarcoma care requires input from many specialists. Our program brings together experts from surgical oncology, orthopedic oncology, radiation oncology and other fields.
This team-based care helps ensure every part of the patient’s diagnosis and treatment plan is carefully coordinated.
Dedicated Nurse Coordinator Support
Cancer care can involve many visits, tests and specialists. Our nurse coordinator helps families navigate the process from the first referral through ongoing care.
They help schedule appointments, gather scans and tumor samples, answer questions and keep communication clear between specialists.
Second Opinions from Pediatric Experts
Many families seek a second opinion when a child is diagnosed with cancer. Our specialists review medical records, imaging and tumor samples to confirm a diagnosis or recommend additional options.
A second opinion can help families better understand their patient’s condition and feel confident about the next steps in care.
