The diuretic group of medications tells the kidneys to get rid of more fluid.

In adults diuretics are commonly used for management of high blood pressure.

In children diuretics are the most commonly used medication for management of mild to moderate degrees of congestive heart failure. In congestive heart failure the body tends to retain fluid, and diuretics can help to counteract this and allow the heart to work more efficiently.
