This one-day interactive conference will feature a variety of local expert healthcare professionals meant to provide the primary care physician with a better understanding and management of the complex connective tissue disorder, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), also known as Joint Hypermobility Disorder.
What is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?
EDS is a heritable connective tissue disorder primarily affecting collagen, whose main features are often described as join hypermobility and soft or unusually stretchy skin. This disorder affects approximately 1-3% of the general population with a large female predominance. As collagen is ubiquitous throughout the body, many tissues and organ systems are affected outside the joints and skin. These patients often present with a variety of complaints from join and muscle pain, widespread pain, chronic fatigue, panic disorder, orthostatic intolerance, functional gastrointestinal disorders, temporomandibular jaw dysfunction, headaches and more which may vary tremendously with presentation in pediatrics or adulthood.

Objectives
The objectives of this course are to provide the primary practitioner with the tools for better recognition and assessment of these patients, more in-depth understanding of the multitude of potential issues and how they may present, as well as insights into management for this complex condition. Local experts in their area with expertise in EDS were specifically chosen to discuss these issues.
