Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center takes pride in its Neurology and Neurosurgery program for its quality and innovative patient care. This year, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center maintains its prestigious designation by the US News and World Report as the #3 pediatric hospital in the country. The Neurology and Neurosurgery department are ranked #6. We would like to take this opportunity to host a conference with an emphasis of the education of the Advanced Practice Provider involved in the care of neurosurgical patients nationwide.

It will be our pleasure to host Gerald Grant, MD, FACS, Division Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Stanford University Medical Center as our keynote speaker this year.

Call for Abstracts:
It is our pleasure to extend a call for abstracts to invite our colleagues from across the nation to present at the conference. Please see the following information for call for abstracts: Call for Abstracts PDF.

Learning Objectives:
To discuss current practices in the comprehensive care of our neurosurgical patients as well as examine new innovation and best practices with a focus on improving outcomes for our neurosurgical patients and our patients with neurological disorder. To describe and define the role of the Advanced Practice Provider in the management of patients with neurologic disorders. Examine suturing technique, rapid triage of patients with neurologic injury, and review imaging modalities and reading.

Teaching Methods:
Course content will be presented through presentations, case studies, panel discussions, and simulations allowing the learner to take an active role in knowledge acquisition.

Target Audience:
This conference is intended for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Physician Assistants involved in the care of patients with neurologic disorders. Physicians and nurses who are also involved in the management of these patients would benefit from this conference. Students interested in the pediatric neurologic surgery specialty are welcome to attend.

6th Annual Pediatric Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy Conference: Early Sport Specialization in the Young Athlete

This course will provide an overview of participation and injury risk in youth sports, particularly at the middle school and high school levels. Special attention will be devoted to the theory that specialization in sport at these levels may be contributing to the increase in initial and recurrent/subsequent injury risk.

The conference will be held in the Sabin Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. CME credit will be offered for the course.

26th Annual Specialist Education in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (SEECMO) Conference

 

June 3-5, 2016


This conference is designed for ECMO specialists, neonatal, pediatric, cardiac and adult critical care physicians, pediatric and adult surgeons, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, respiratory therapists and perfusionists. The curriculum is designed to provide interactive education for health care providers who care for patients receiving extracorporeal support.
 

Conference Goals

The conference will focus on management and novel trends in the management of neonates, children and adults with respiratory and cardiac failure organized around the following themes:

  • Safety
  • eCPR
  • Respiratory needs
  • Ethics
  • Cardiac/VAD Support
  • Back to Basics - ECMO Management 101
  • ECMO Challenges for the Future
  • Program specific needs (staffing, circuitry, training and simulation)

Cincinnati Reds baseball game

 All conference attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a ticket ($26) to attend a Cincinnati Reds baseball game on Friday, June 3rd.  The Reds will play the Washington Nationals.  Following the game will be a fireworks show in the stadium.  Please note, Great American Ball Park is 4 city blocks from the conference hotel, therefore, we will not be providing transportation to the game. Pediatric Flexible Bronchoscopy Postgraduate Course

Each year, Robert Wood, MD, PhD, holds a postgraduate course on the principles and practice of flexible bronchoscopy in pediatric patients. The course is an intensive four-day program involving lectures, demonstrations, hands-on laboratory exercises in model systems, video laboratories, which review normal and abnormal endoscopic findings, and a BAL lab.
