Laboratory Testing
You may think it doesn’t really matter where you take your child for lab work. But minimizing the anxiety and stress your child may feel when a specimen is taken does matter.
At Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the phlebotomists (who draw the blood samples) work ONLY with children – their well-honed collection skills result in fewer repeat sticks, even in the youngest patients. They’re comfortable handling the special needs of children, and helping them when they’re scared – they’re also skilled at helping children remain calmer during collection.
Pediatric testing equipment also requires lower volume samples for accurate testing, resulting in shorter collection time and less need for repeat sticks.
Most of the samples your child’s physician orders can be collected at any of our neighborhood locations – and you don’t need an appointment, only a physician’s order. And many of the most commonly ordered tests can be performed on site, including:
- Chemistry profile
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Lead level
- Lipid profile
- Rapid strep test
