Neonatology Grand Rounds Series Objectives: 1. Discuss the pathophysiology of common diseases in newborn infants,  2. Describe the diagnostic approach used to identify and determine the severity of these illnesses, and 3. Discuss the treatment strategies used for these disease and the medical evidence supporting their use.

  • Educational Gap:  Premature infants require specialized care based on their gestational age.  Infants born at 30 weeks require different care, including nutrition and respiratory management than an infant born at 24 or 36 weeks.  Clinical anecdotes reveal inconsistency in the management of the early third trimester preterm infant.  The purpose of the educational event is to improve consistency of practice among different institutions.
